Your WoofID is part of your dog’s everyday life, so it may get dirty. A gentle care routine keeps the necklace clean and the contact details readable. This guide covers the whole accessory: both the paracord and the personalised components.
Start with a quick check
Look at the cord, connections and personalised components before cleaning. Check for fraying, damage or loose parts. Make sure the name and phone number are still easy to read.
If anything is damaged, stop using the WoofID and contact us for advice. Cleaning does not repair wear or broken components.

Wipe away surface dirt with a soft, damp cloth. Work carefully around the text and any decorative components. Don’t scrub or scrape to remove stubborn marks.
Always follow the care instructions for your design. A method suitable for loose paracord is not automatically suitable for the complete WoofID. Ask us first if you’re unsure about a cleaning product or stain.
Keep cleaning mild
Avoid bleach, harsh chemicals, abrasive sponges and metal polish on the complete accessory. Prolonged soaking or homemade vinegar or bicarbonate baths are not standard WoofID care recommendations.
General washing advice for paracord does not mean a WoofID can go in the washing machine. Check the specific care instructions or ask us for advice first.
Let the necklace air-dry
Let a damp WoofID dry fully in a well-ventilated place. Keep it away from radiators, hairdryers and other direct heat sources. Don’t use a tumble dryer.
Wait until the necklace is completely dry before storing it. Choose a clean, dry place where the cord and components are not under unnecessary tension.
Check the contact details regularly
A tidy necklace with an unreadable or old number is less useful to a finder. Look at the text as well as the dirt. If your phone number changes, update the identification too.
Our guide to names and phone numbers on an ID accessory will help you check the details. Keep the contact information registered to the microchip up to date as well.
Care goes hand in hand with proper use
The WoofID is a handmade paracord dog necklace and a decorative accessory. It is worn on a separate cord, independently of the collar or harness. Never attach a lead to it.
After cleaning, check the fit and condition again. Follow the use instructions on the product page. Read our choosing guide for more on comfort.
Frequently asked questions
How often should I clean a WoofID?
Check it regularly and clean gently when it is dirty. After a walk, also check that the details are still readable.
Can I machine-wash a WoofID?
Don’t assume so. A WoofID has components besides paracord. Follow the specific care instructions or ask us for advice first.
Can I use metal polish?
Don’t use it on a WoofID without suitable advice. This is not an ordinary metal tag. Ask us about care for your design.
How should I dry a WoofID?
Air-dry it in a well-ventilated place away from direct heat. Store it only once it is completely dry.
What if I find wear or loose parts?
Stop using it and contact us. Never attach a lead to a WoofID, even if the cord still looks strong.
Regular checks and gentle cleaning help keep your WoofID in good condition. We’re happy to help if you’re unsure about care.
